Cyprus has taken another significant step in the digital transformation of its public services by introducing a new online platform for residence permit renewals. As part of the government’s 2026 digitalisation strategy, the system enables foreign residents, employers, and authorised representatives to submit renewal applications electronically, making the process faster and more efficient.
The new platform is expected to handle approximately 73% of all existing residence permit renewal applications, significantly simplifying administrative procedures. Its primary objective is to reduce processing times, ease the workload of the Department of Migration, and address the lengthy waiting periods that applicants have experienced in recent years.
The platform has been designed to serve three main user groups. It is available to foreign nationals who are already legally residing in Cyprus and need to renew their existing residence permits, employers responsible for extending permits for foreign employees, and authorised representatives, including lawyers, legal advisers, and consulting firms acting on behalf of their clients.
At its initial stage, the platform supports renewals for several of the most common residence permit categories. These include temporary residence permits for employees and private individuals, permits for staff of foreign interest companies, family reunification residence permits, and long-term residence permits.
It is important to note that the platform is intended exclusively for the renewal of existing residence statuses. First-time residence permit applications will continue to require a personal visit to the relevant immigration authorities and completion of the standard application procedure.
Through the online portal, applicants can complete and submit application forms, upload supporting documentation, pay government fees electronically by bank card, and monitor the status of their application in real time.
Personal attendance is required only at the final stage of the process, when applicants must complete biometric registration, sign the necessary documents, and collect their residence permit card.
The launch of the new platform reflects Cyprus’ broader commitment to modernising public administration through digital technologies. For international professionals, multinational companies, and foreign investors, this translates into faster, more transparent, and more predictable administrative procedures, further strengthening the country’s appeal as a destination for living, working, and investing.
