Cyprus continues to solidify its reputation as one of Europe’s fastest-growing tourism destinations. According to the latest report by the Aviation Council International, the island ranked second in Europe for air connectivity growth compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy given Cyprus’s geographic distance from mainland Europe. Through a strategic focus on expanding transport infrastructure and attracting new airline partners, the country has significantly enhanced its accessibility for both travelers and investors.
Expanding Routes and Increasing Flight Frequency
Today, 55 airlines from 39 countries operate flights to Cyprus. Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis noted that several new routes have been introduced in recent years, particularly from the Balkans, Poland, Germany, and the Scandinavian region.
However, the most significant milestone has been the increase in flight frequency on existing routes, which has made travel to and from the island more convenient and predictable for both tourists and business travelers.
Tourism as an Economic Growth Driver
Enhanced air connectivity has directly boosted the tourism sector. According to Cyprus’s Statistical Service, tourism revenue in the first seven months of the year increased by 17.4% compared to the same period last year.
These figures confirm the effectiveness of the government’s strategy to strengthen ties with key markets and sustain steady growth in visitor arrivals.
